I reviewed the “Last Lecture” from Professor Randy Pausch this week. He was diagnosed with cancer and was only expected to live a few more weeks, so this lecture truly might be his last.
Professor Pausch goes for something and believes that he can do it, despite the opposition from others or what might be naturally thought. He doesn’t accept barriers that others would consider to be something that would make things impossible or at the very least, very difficult to achieve. He finds a way and gets what he wants to achieve done. He makes it become a reality when no one thought that it could be.
I think it is important to dream. I think that dreams allow us to consider something that isn’t necessarily easy. Dreams allow us to step outside of our comfort zone before actually going there, and then we can start to put ideas together that show us the path to fulfill our dreams.
Ever since I was a young teenager, I thought that achieving a career in video production would be quite enjoyable. As I have learned more about the industry and all that this type of job would require, I have come to notice many things that might make this realistic or unrealistic. I have always considered the growing need for video in the world. This need has excelled at perhaps an unprecedented rate. I think this growth has created a demand that maybe wasn’t able to be fulfilled by video professionals, and most people are creating video on their cell phones and I thing the standard of quality that is expected among people has gone down. This could diminish the growth of video production as a profession. There is also a lot of competition in the industry, as many have sought to gain these skills and get involved seemingly all at once. I think a successful career in this field is still possible because there will always be a need somewhere and I believe I can find the right ways to gain a leading edge over my competitors.
